The Pesaro hinterland is an area rich in beauty worth discovering. Among the rolling hills, just a few kilometres from the coast, are small historic villages, medieval fortresses and castles that tell ancient mythical stories and legends. These are the magnificent locations you can explore near the Excelsior.
FIORENZUOLA DI FOCARA - 11 km
Inside the Monte San Bartolo park you can find medieval village Fiorenzuola di Focara. Paths and squares alternate with portals dating back to 1600. Decending from the ancient village, it is possible to reach a wonderful sandy beach, a true destination for lovers of wild beaches, to become immersed in unspoiled nature.
GRADARA - 15 km
This beautiful medieval village is known from the legend of Paolo and Francesca as told by Dante. It is included among the most beautiful villages in Italy, and has received the nomination of "Borgo dei Borghi 2018". The castle was the home of important families such as the Malatesta, Sforza, Della Rovere. The walk inside its walls along its suggestive path allows you to admire a characteristic example of medieval architecture recovered also thanks to an interpretative restoration carried out at the beginning of the twentieth century.
FRASASSI CAVES - 100 km
These imposing and majestic underground karst caves offer a truly suggestive natural spectacle created through the work of water on rock over the course of almost 200 million years. They are located within the Gola della Rossa and Frasassi Natural Park.
MARMITTE DEI GIGANTI - 40 km
They are located in San Lazzaro, in the municipality of Fossombrone, and are one of the most evocative natural phenomena of the Marche that form splendid canyons and waterfalls on the Metauro river
MERCATELLO SUL METAURO - 60 km
This charming village has maintained its typical medieval aspect, surrounded by ancient walls protected by two rivers, the Metauro river and the S. Antonio stream. The state-owned forests of Massa Trabaria develop around Mercatello sul Metauro, with a network of paths that go as far as Alpe della Luna, frequented by many hiking and MTB enthusiasts.
MONDAVIO - 35 km
Mondavio is also included in the most beautiful villages in Italy as well as having earned several tourist awards such as the Orange Flag of the Touring Club and the Green Flag of the Italian Farmers Confederation. It dominates the district from the top of its towers.The marvelous Rocca Roveresca stands out as well as its bell towers.
MONDOLFO - 25 km Mondolfo, the Balcony of the Adriatic, is located on a hill in the hamlet of Marotta a few kilometers from the sea and on the banks of the Cesano river. Historical and naturalistic attractions blend together, offering a unique result that has allowed Mondolfo to be included among the most beautiful villages in Italy.
MONTE SAN BARTOLO NATURAL PARK - 15 km
From this protected natural area it is possible to admire a breathtaking view. Here is the "Roof of the World", which can be reached from one of the most distinctive paths on Monte San Bartolo, offering an unforgettable view of the sea.
POZZE DI FOCI IN CAGLI - 60 km
The Pozze di foci in Cagli are waterfalls with crystal clear water along the Burano river. The more daring will find several points from which to dive into its icy waters.
URBINO - 35 km
Within its walls, Urbino preserves a priceless historical, artistic and architectural heritage, protected by UNESCO. This millenary city, cradle of the Renaissance, offers an infinite number of attractions to visit such as the Palazzo Ducale, a small fortified city that now houses the National Gallery of the Marche with works by Tiziano, Piero della Francesca and Raffaello Sanzio. The latter's house in the craftsman's quarter also houses some of his original works.
